The Montana Department of Justice’s Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) received an extension from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, for the implementation of the federal identification law, REAL ID. The extension expired June 1, 2019.
Current, unexpired Montana drivers’ licenses or IDs will be accepted by the Transportation Security Administration to board domestic, commercial flights and access federal facilities until October 1, 2020. Beginning October 1, 2020, a REAL ID-compliant driver's license, an enhanced driver's license, or another acceptable form of ID will be required to fly within the United States.
