[ARCHIVED] Airport Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Division Live Fire Training

BIL LOGO 260x260

The Billings Logan International Airport Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) Division conduced "live" fire training at the Airport's training facility located in the northwest corner of the Airport complex.   The training occurred on Thursday, September 26, 2019, beginning at 7:00 pm and  continued to approximately 10:00 pm.

The Airport works under an "operation certificate" issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) that in part, requires all assigned airport firefighters to participate in exercises in controlling and extinguishing live fires that simulate those that may occur in an aircraft accident.  These drills are required at least once per year and emphasize certain aviation firefighting tactics.  In this training instance, firefighters utilized onboard firefighting appliances (turrets) to control the fires from the cab of the fire trucks.

Billings Gazette photographer Mike Clark, illustrates views of the training in his photos, available through the link below.
