The Billings Logan International Airport Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) Division will be conducting "live" fire training at the Airport's training facility located in the northwest corner of the Airport complex. Flames may be visible in this area during the training, but should not be of concern. The training will occur on Thursday, September 26, 2019, beginning at 7:00 pm and will continue to approximately 10:00 pm.
The Airport works under an "operation certificate" issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) that in part, requires all assigned airport firefighters to participate in exercises in controlling and extinguishing live fires that simulate those that may occur in an aircraft accident. These drills are required at least once per year and emphasize certain aviation firefighting tactics. In this training instance, firefighters will be utilizing onboard firefighting appliances (turrets) to control the fires from the cab of the fire trucks.
